Why does a monster in a city film have to equal up to Godzilla?
Quote:
And like the trendy critis that hyped it up its not as clever or important in the world of films as it thinks it is......I don`t believe the critics hyped it up, I believe it was the viral marketing. And probably one of the best examples of viral marketing in the last couple of years too. There was nothing `lazy` about the film at all, and if you truly believe that you deserve all the hostility (you believe) you`re getting.

Why the hostility .....
I did give it a wink after lazy review.
Then I just countered that I didn`t feel that your arguments held up and give my opinions.
No hostility just questioning your logic, as I can understand not liking the film, but your main grievance is their is a big monster which therefore makes it a remake of Godzilla.
I haven`t seen the original Godzilla since I was very young, (unfortunately I did see the newer one) but the only similarity is there is a big monster that destroys the city.
It`s like saying that any film that features the same war that`s already been filmed is lazy.
Isn`t the whole plot of Godzilla that they are trying to work out what it is and stop it?
Whereas Cloverfield I think is more unique in the fact that they are just people who happen to be in the city when this disaster happens trying to find their friend and then survive.
All attempts with the army etc is just something that is happening in the background, which is why there is no ending in your eyes (but the film is about them trying to survive rather than stopping a giant monster).
In fact in countering this argument all your other arguments against the film is actually that your disappointed it not more like Godzilla by the sounds of it?

oddly enough, watching it in high def improves the experience, weird since they are going for the handycam effect, but you pick out more background detail, stuff you may have missed on the small screen is more obvious etc, in fact, if mr mills has yet to see it in high def, i can fix that ;) since your visiting me in the coming weeks, i`ll ensure quite a lot of high def goodness for you lol :)

I haven`t actually watch any film in Hi Def yet. :/ Got the tv but haven`t had the facilities (of BluRay) or the broadband connection to be downloading those sized files.

I watched the film and gave my opinions which I still stand by,I dont consider it a bad film it was simply nothing original or special, this film in my honest opinion is just a remake of a Godzilla film and called something else and hyped to hell by people trying to pretend they are ground breaking film makers .
