Best DTS-ES & DD-EX DVDs?

0A1B2C (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 20th November 2003, 20:10

So now I have a new a/v amp capable of decoding both DD-EX and DTS-ES, I am wondering what are the best DVDs to test it out?

Cheers,
Adam!

Star Wars: Episode 2: Attack Of The Clones is without a doubt the best DD 5.1EX soundtrack out there. Hell, it is the best soundtrack out there in my humble opinion. ;)

Not that I`m biased or anything :D

Have you noticed how DTS-ES discs always automatically flag the amp to change to 6.1,but,until recently, all DD-EX discs have to be manually changed to bring the rear centre speaker in.
Most modern soundtracks are great in both formats, but check out some classics remixed, like the Region 1 Highlander, and lots of Anchor Bay releases.AB are remixing a lot of classics into 6.1 which may never get the same treatment on R2.

Adam.

Here’s a list of titles that I have which are pretty sound (couldn’t resist the pun!).

Ep1: The Phantom Menace (DD EX)
Ep2: Attack Of The Clones (DD EX)
L.O.T.R.: The Fellowship Of The Ring EE (DD EX/DTS ES) - go for the R1
L.O.T.R.: The Two Towers EE (DDEX/DTS ES)
Monsters Inc (DDEX/DTS ES)
Toy Story 2 (DD EX) R1 - not sure about R2
Seven (2 disc) (DTS ES)
E.T. (DD EX & DTS ES I think!)
A.I. (DD EX)
T2: Ultimate Edition (DD EX/DTS ES)

I don’t think Gladiator is in ES. I bought mine when it came out and, although it states DTS ES on the back, I don’t think it is. A friend of mine bought a re-issue of it and it now states just DTS.

Hope this helped you out.

Shenkman.

I`m pretty sure the Final Destination 2 disc had ES, but even if it didn`t it has to be
the best surround sound I`ve heard in a long time.

Don`t you just hate it when a film has a terrible 5.1 soundtrack?
