The Terminator R2 DVD ROT PROBLEM

chewie (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 30th June 2002, 18:38

Has anyone had a problem with The Terminator R2 two-disc set with DVD rot. It looks like condensation on the disc and it DEFINITELY wasn`t there when I bought it last year. I hope this is just a problem with my disc. It plays fine at the moment, but that could change.

Has anyone else got this problem?

Yes. After reading about this on another site, i checked my disks this morning, and found that both had misted over and felt tacky. This appears to be caused by the packaging,(although this is not confirmed). It would probably be best to clean the disks and put them in a new Amaray case.

So this is going to be a big problem for MGM. I too have now read others with problems with these discs. I wouldn`t think it would be the packaging but the glue used to bind the discs together. Just my theory. I`ll be letting MGM know about this tomorrow.

Chewie, you could be right (i hope not). Whatever the cause, it shouldn`t happen, and MGM must do something.I would advise everyone to check their disks, and like you, inform MGM if they have the problem.

I think that MGM WILL do something (just replace the discs). They are liable and it has probably happened because they were trying to use cheaper materials. Either way, it sounds like it is a big problem and it also effects Silence Of The Lambs (which I don`t have). So I wouldn`t worry too much. THEY WILL replace them. Lets see what they have to say first before we start flaming the company (which will happen quite soon, me thinks), as they were good films with good extras. None of my other DVD`s have this problem, and I checked all of them, especially the ones in digi-packs.

Just a quick p.s. John Archer from totaldvd website (news desk) is looking at this case, so if you have problems contacting MGM, then contact him and he will forward your comments.

Thanks Market, but I have contacts that will get me in touch with MGM. I will go to that web site to support this "problem".

This is serious. I guess ALL copies of The Terminator are effected. This is going to cost MGM a lot of money to fix.
