Wilkinson "Wilko" sale

Choagy (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 23rd July 2014, 21:03

Evening folks

Just a wee post to let anyone interested that Wilkinsons have a great sale on home brew kits/ equipment at the moment. Just started today I think. Woodfordes Wherry £14.25
Wilko Best Bitter £12.75
Wilko Golden Ale £12.75
Wilko Newkie Brown £7.50 FFS 19p a pint

They are awaiting stock for some so you may have to wait a day or so for it to be available in store or online.

The Wherry is my favourite and I can honestly say it is as good of not better than any "Real Ale" I have tasted from pubs.
The "Best Bitter" is one I have just started drinking and like the Wherry is a wonderful pint.
The "Golden Ale" is the first I made from Wilko and again is an absolutely beautiful pint.
If anyone is interested can I offer the following advice. If you can, leave the beer in the bottle after fermentation for about two months. My "Wherry" is just at that stage and tho` I arsed the majority of it beforehand it gets better by the day.

All of the kits are two cans with the exception of the Newkie Brown which is one can. The difference being that you need to add sugar to the one can kit and not the two can kit.

For those who have tried home brew before, many years ago, now is the time to start afresh. The kits years ago were pish water where the kits now rival any commercial beer PROVIDE YOU STERILISE YOUR EQUIPMENT AND STICK TO THE INSTRUCTIONS

A fermentation barrel is about £10.50 , airlock at £1.75 ,add a two can kit of Wherry £14.25 , ten cleaned previously used 2 Ltr lemonade/ cola bottles and two months later you will have forty pints of the best beer you could ever wish for. Ignoring the price point of 62/63 p a pint and focusing on the quality I can testify "Heal me Jebus" that they are exceptional.

Anywhoo folks, I am ready to snap my good ladies fingers to try and get the CC from her and get my home brew stock built up

Erse about face  but hopefully all the relevant information is there

My girlfriend bought me a pack of home brew stuff the other week as she successfully did some Elderflower Champagne :) - so will pop down and have a gander.
I've got the fermentation barrel, need to get a brewing keg with the CO2 thingy - but reading your advise is bottling the stuff better?

Like the idea of a DVDReviewer Home Brew Club lol

@Badboyez

If you really get into it get a screwtop fermenting bin from Wilko. The smaller air volume above the brew allied to the efficiently sealed (Silicon gasket) does aid fermentation. Oxygen is the danger so a tight efficient seal that keeps the Co2 in the barrel bubbling in to the airlock is the key.
I prefer to use bottles myself tho` others prefer barrels. The reason I use bottles is that the Grolsch ones I use have the flip top so any over-pressure would raise the top a bit . My other or second favourite
I also have a shed load of 660ml Becks/Tiger etc bottles and use them with a crown capper to bottle Brown Ale or Export.
Anywhoo BBZ if you fancy a nice simple one then get the Wherry . Simply boil six pintos of water, add two cans , top up to 40 pints or a bit less, add yeast and away you go. I personally make the Wherry on a regular basis and have yet to taste a bad un`.
Wilko`s are really great where Home Brew is concerned and the variety is there for all to see.
There is something very relaxing listening to an air-lock bubbling away plus you know when fermentation has finished when it stops bubbling

HTH

I await the poorly worded and grammatically inarticulate ramblings of a keyboard challenged, poorly focused , pished  "Home Brew Nutter"
Far too many times I have posted under the influence of a few Wherries/Newkie Brown Ales/Geordie Lager (Brewed to 6%)

Anywhoo mate, if you want any information or tips I can give you a few. Wait a couple of weeks as we are away to Salou for a fortnight
