BT Mobile Network Offer!!!

[disctitle][/disctitle]

I am considering BT mobile networks offer of Nokia 6020 camera phone with 150 anytime minutes and 50 texts per month + 1000 minutes of quick calls home for £9.99 a month. This is an offer for BT shareholders. Is this deal any good? What's the BT network and the phone like? Any alternatives or suggestions would be welcome.

The Network is ok, uses Vodafone as its provider. (Like Tesco uses O2, known as a "virtual" network) I got a D500 from them a few months ago.

The phone you mention is ok too, mid range with decent spec. The best deal on BT though is at http://www.mobileshop.com/special_offers.php free Nokia 6230i, excellent handset, £9.99./month for same deal as above via cashback at months 6 and 12. Mobileshop are reliable.

Excellent offer - think you`re referring to the Nokia 6230i - its £120pa (£9.99pcm) - use Quidco and get another thirty pounds back - takes it down to £7.49pcm.

BT Mobile uses T-Mobile as it`s supplier, not vodaphone.

(muddying the waters, BT (the company) use vodaphone for their staff`s mobile handsets which might be where the confusion comes from).

According to this article at The Register, Vodafone do provide the Network for BT Mobile.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/11/19/bt_o2_vodafone

However I do note that BT Mobile`s pricing seems to differentiate between BT Mobile and BT Mobile Business. Are thes two services hosted on different networks???

I do know that Virgin is hosted by T-Mobile, as is Easymobile, and T-Mobile and Virgin are charging CrossNet rates for calls between themselves even though these are same network calls!

Anyone have a definite answer on BT Mobile, and do they charge CrossNet rates to Vodafone?

Are you sure ? It used to use T mobile - but from this year started using Vodafone.

Yes as above BT now use Voda as their provider, the easy way to confirm this is to do a manual network search on your handset, it will accept Vodafone but not the others.

I`m sitting here with a BT Mobile sim in my phone. It`s an unlocked phone and is connected to T-Mobile.

You can confirm this by looking at GPRS connection settings for example too..t-mobile ones work with bt-mobile.

But as you point out, they now appear to be using voda for new connections (mine is a contract started last sept).

So, I stand corrected! Damn shame I`m on t-mobile now then as they don`t have fecking internet GPRS only WAP whereas vodaphone does. buggers.

Thanks for these updates. Quidco has lots of offers. Which one offers £30 cash back on BT mobile network? The BT mobile plan on their site only offers £21. Never heared of Quidco before! Their cash back, how does it work?

Thanks again

You would use their link to the Mobileshop to get the offer - http://www.quidco.com/content/blogsection/13/83/
it operates as a cooperative - collects the cash from referrals and passes it on to the customer. Seems like its down to £25 from Mobileshop. Just a word of warning - I`ve never used Quidco (always use Rpoints) so have no idea as to their reliability. They take £5 the first time you use them and £5 a year thereafter.
