Review for WWE Fastlane

10 / 10

Fastlane is almost a tale of how to start and end a show perfectly. However, last time I commented on how few matches there were (six) but that each match was given a great amount of time to mean something. This time with only five matches only one is not worth rewatching, but the other four are simply perfect.

Starting with Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso against Damien Priest and Finn Balor for the Tag team championship was a great match despite how much I didn’t think these teams would work. If there had been a stipulation it may have even better, but that’s just me being greedy. A fantastic way to start the PPV.

The Six man match between Lashley and The Street Profits against LWO (Carlito, Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar) just did not work. Maybe this needed an elimination stipulation or something, but it just didn’t seem to work and no one was given enough time to mean anything.

The women’s three way between champion Iyo Sky against Asuka and Charlotte Flair was exactly what Sky needed to prove that she was worthy of holding that belt. This was a great challenge and though I am not a fan of the triple threat stipulation it really worked here.

In the second of the Cena Comeback he tags with LA Knight against Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa. A good match and certainly a good way to give Knight the rub by working with Cena.

Finally, we have the match of the night and possibly the match of the year so far. The Last Man Standing match between Seth Rollins and Shinsuke Nakamura was one of the best matches I have watched in a long time. This did not devolve into just a 24/7 Hardcore match like most of them, but felt like a truly competitive bout between the two and I enjoyed every single second of it.

Fastlane 2023 was one of the best PPVs (not one of the big four) that I have seen in a long time. Top to bottom everything is watchable and even the one dud (Street Profits/Lashley against LWO) still had its moments. This PPV is the Fastlane to some of the best wrestling WWE has presented for forever and I hope they keep up this quality.
