    Synopsis:
`The Birthday Party` was originally presented on stage in London in 1958. At the time, one highly respected critic described the work as `one of the major plays of our time`. He further noted that the play`s author, Harold Pinter, `would eventually be recognised as one of the greatest talents in contemporary English literature`. The transition from stage to screen in 1968 is handled brilliantly by legendary director William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The French Connection) and the hugely talented cast are simply outstanding.

Described as a comedy of menace, `The Birthday party` is a dramatic expose of contemporary man`s inability to cope with his fears and guilt. Stanley (Robert Shaw), is lodging at a shabby seaside boarding house. When he`s visited by two menacing and mysterious strangers, who insist on throwing a birthday in his honour, his world changes dramatically.
