Review for WWE Over The Limit 2012
Over the Limit 2012 is a PPV that really could have been something special, but in a way it was just another WWE PPV. Just another John Cena match, just another horrible Divas match, just another wasted tag match and a so so battle royale.
HOWEVER...
two names make this DVD a set that you MUST own.
CM PUNK
and
DANIEL BRYAN.
For those who saw their rise through the indys, through Ring of Honor, this match is almost a dream come true. It is true that if this had been in Ring of Honor it would probably be an hour long and be Match of the Year. But for those who want to see two of the best in the world doing what they do best, then this is the match to watch. This was the Steamboat/Savage of this decade and I will defy anyone (other than those two) to do better. Trust me, it isn't going to happen.
The rest of the PPV is so so. The WWE Tag Team Championship match between Kofi Kingston & R-Truth and Jack Swagger & Dolph Ziggler was fine, not a great tag match, but certainly not a great match. The Battle Royale could have been interesting if the stakes had been higher (Really? An IC or US shot? Would it be worth it?) and I spent most of the time trying to figure out who was in the ring. The winner (won't spoil it) and his later challenge against the champion was fine, but again nothing special.
This can also be said for the less than two minute match between Ryback and Camacho which goes further to establish him as the New Goldberg. The Divas match was awful, but I expected that as was Brodus Clay against the Miz which more or less made me realise just how far the former WWE champion had fallen.
The Fatal Four way between Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, Randy Orton and Chris Jericho was great, but at times you felt you know who was winning and the whole feel of the match was just off somewhat. Finally the awful, painfully awful match between John Laurinaitis and John Cena was almost embarrassing and if you follow the actual storyline then it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. But then we could say that about much of WWE's bookings.
Despite most of the event being less than great, I still have to say the CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan match more than makes up for that. This saves the whole PPV and I would recommend you purchase for this alone. And for that makes Over the Limit 2012 a DVD for everyone who loves CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, or just pure wrestling in general.
