An OK thriller, but it definitely does not live to its expectations.
Well casted and nicely acted, this movie is a combination of a thriller and a ghost story.
Somehow, however, this 130 minutes long movie is never chilling or frightening (notice the PG-13 rating).
The video transfer is very nice. There are no compression signs and the dark scenes (plenty of those, by the way) are rendered very nicely. There are some cool special effects in this movie. However, I did not realize they were special effects until I watched the behind the scenes section. Very nice.
The DTS and DD 5.1 soundtracks are both good. There`s not that much usage of the surrounds, which is a pity, since this kind of a movie simply demands some haunted sounds coming from the surrounds.
The menus are all animated with scary sounds.
The extras include a nice commentary, some production notes and a behind the scenes look (which is mostly dedicated to the director, Robert Zemeckis). Oh yeah, don`t watch the trailer prior to watching the movie. It`ll ruin everything for you.
All in all, not a total waste of time, but then again, it does not get close to "does for bathtubs what `Psycho` did for showers".

The film really does borrow heavily from Hitchcock's well known classics, most notably Rear Window, however, it does enough to take the genre one step further which it achieves with great special effects and a number of plot twists and turns. Because of the Hitchcock influence on the movie, even the simplest little things become scary…you won't want to go near your bathtub for a long, long time!

"What Lies Beneath" is one of those films where you`re really better off knowing as little as possible about the movie when you go into it. It`s not the best flick in the world, but it does manage to pull its strings together tightly enough to become entertaining.

"What Lies Beneath" manages to thrill and horrify at times. Add to that the beautiful visual style of the movie, the great presentation on this DVD and the extras, and you have a fantastic DVD release on your hands!

This is certainly a film that you should watch. It is riveting from start to finish. The pace of the film is timed to perfection, and keeps you on the edge of your seat, behind your seat, under your seat.and every other conceivable seat position!

"What Lies Beneath" is an entertaining thriller that is worth checking out for it`s technical wizardry and solid performances. The Dreamworks DVD looks and sounds great,
