NBA Champions 2008-2009: Los Angeles Lakers

7 / 10

Some teams epitomise the sport they play in, Man Utd or Liverpool for Football, Yankees or Red Sox for Baseball and for Basketball it is all about the Lakers.  They are team that have racked up (so far) three thousand wins, including a world record thirty-three game winning streak and have won the NBA championship fifteen times. Looking at who have played for the Lakers it is almost like a Who's Who of basketball with fourteen Hall of Famers coming from their teams and players such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant all walking away with NBA's MVP of the Year award. With this kind of history you can understand why the team like to win and do so regularly.

Coming back from their final defeat in the 2007-2008 season, the Lakers came back strong and this disk shows just how good they were last year. It is true that the documentary is a little over the top in its production with the narrator making every point lost sound like a disaster and every point gained the greatest of victories, but I got to admit it pulled me in and kept me watching. The documentary takes us through the entire year from that defeat to their glorious victory as champions of the 2008-2009 season.

Included on the disk is a host of extras, behind the scenes footage from the year and a spotlight placed on a number of players particularly Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher. Though some footage from key games in the season are included I do wish they had included a game in full just to get the full scope of just how good this team were, but the sections were pretty good and adds a lot to the footage we get to see throughout the disk.

NBA Champions 2008-2009: Los Angeles Lakers is great for Lakers fans to wash the bitter taste from the previous year.
