Directed by Shigeru Ueda (Fullmetal Alchemist; Fate Stay Night; Serial Experiments Lain), RIN - Daughters Of Mnemosyne comes to DVD on 13th September 2010 as a two-disc release featuring all six episodes of the animated TV series specially produced by Xebec (a subsidiary of Production I.G.) and Genco to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Japan[apost]s AT-X anime TV network.
Rin Asogi is a detective running her own private investigation agency in Tokyo[apost]s Shinjuku district. Together with her partner and assistant, Mimi, she undertakes all and sundry mundane cases ranging from finding lost pets to hunting rare stamps. Their struggle to get by in a city rife with macabre crimes and loneliness is made more bearable by their companionship and the solace they find in vodka. What makes Rin and Mimi different to most citiziens of Tokyo, however, is they are both immortal.
Many years past, a [apost]time spore[apost] entered Rin[apost]s body, giving her the gift of everlasting life, unable to age or die and capable of surviving and regenerating from phenomenal amounts of physical damage to her body. This gift has made her the perfect target for the mysterious Apos, a sadistic, self-proclaimed god who long ago discovered the path to immortality and who has now become obsessed with sacrificing Rin to Yggdrasil, the tree of all life.
Spanning a period of sixty-five years, from 1990 Tokyo to 2055 Kyoto, RIN - Daughters Of Mnemosyne tells the epic, erotic, nightmarish story of Rin[apost]s search to unravel the secrets of her endless life and her endless agony as her physical form is repeatedly pierced, torn apart and reduced to a bloody pulp by those eager to inflict pain upon her and devour her memories.
Boasting stunning animation, appealing characters and a truly compelling storyline, RIN - Daughters Of Mnemosyne is shocking, disturbing, occasionally witty but most of all, an extremely entertaining piece of anime for mature viewers.
