Review of Rhubarb Rhubarb / Mr H Is Late

    6 / 10

    Introduction

Rhubarb Rhubarb and Mr H is Late are 2 examples of the resurgence for silent comedy shorts that occurred in the 70`s and 80`s.

Rhubarb Rhubarb is a well known tale of a game of golf that goes off the rails and Mr H. is Late concerns the chaos that ensues trying to move a coffin from the home to the church.
The home is in a 30 story skyscraper with a dodgy lift.

Both shorts feature more then a hand full of well know comedy talent of the time including the likes of Hattie Jacques, Cannon and Ball and obviously Eric Sykes.

    Video

Both shorts are presented in full frame and the quality of the transfer is not very good.
That said I don`t believe for one moment that there are better quality masters and it is definitely watchable.

    Audio

Both shorts carry a mono soundtrack with the same sound being pushed to the left and right speakers.
Audio is clear throughout; all 3 or 4 words that get spoken come across just fine ;-).

    Features

The DVD comes with a little bio on Eric Sykes and that is about your lot I am afraid.

    Conclusion

A totally unremarkable DVD if it was not for the laugh out loud quality that the silent slapstick tends to bring out in people.

Both shorts are totally non politically correct and are products of there time but I would have to say that if you find the DVD cheaply its worth checking out.
