Review of South Park Volume 14

    8 / 10

    Introduction

We`ve reached volume 14 of South Park, which takes us across the 60 episode mark. Have there really been that many episodes already? Obviously there have. Some old favourites return to the show mid-way through season 4, some briefly, others for a longer stay. We also get the first mid-season two-parter, which is quite a departure for an animated show.

    Video

As with the previous season 4 discs, a good full frame transfer with no problems of note. You would expect nothing less for programmes made about a year before this DVD was put together.

    Audio

As with the previous two volumes of series 4, a DD2.0 stereo track that does its job well without sweeping you off your feet.
The French audio track of earlier seasons still hasn`t re-appeared, so we can safely say that it`s gone for good.

    Features

Afraid not. Just the episodes here.

    Conclusion

We`ve passed the halfway point of the season and the episodes are of the same high standard set by the previous volumes.

"Do The Handicapped Go To Hell?" and "Probably" make up the first mid-season two-part story for South Park. Priest Maxi is scaring the children of South Park into attending Church by telling them that they will all go to hell to face Satan. Satan is having problems of his own, with his nice new boyfriend Chris, and his former boyfriend who we met in "South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut". After losing faith in Priest Maxi, Cartman decides that he must save the souls of the town, and adopts the role of evangelist. Will he save the town, or is it just another scheme to make 10 million dollars?

In "4th Grade", the boys move up a year at school. A new class means a new teacher in the form of Miss Choksondik (think about it!) Things are not looking good so they enlist the help of some Trekkie nerds to build them a time machine so they can return to the 3rd grade. Meanwhile Mr Garrison must face his demons if he is ever to return to South Park.

In "Trapper Keeper", Cartman`s new trapper keeper (a hi-tech pencil case with personal organiser and more) is causing quite a stir. So much of a stir that a robot is sent back from the future to destroy it before it takes over the world. Sound familiar? As well as a Terminator parody we also get an attack on the election, as the Kindergarten class presidential elections get out of hand. Will Rosie O`Donnell save the day?

More great episodes from the fourth season, and highly recommended for fans. If you can stretch to it you should buy the fourth season box set, as it can work out at up to half the price of buying each disc individually! £19.99 for four episodes and no extras is rather steep!
