Anime Review Roundup

We have a paucity of news this week, and a scarcity of reviews too, so let’s get straight to the nitty-gritty. Last week, I reviewed From the New World: Part 1, and I was happy. I was happy to see a genuine sci-fi anime again, I was happy to see intriguing characterisations, and a genuinely gripping narrative. I was happy to see the kind of post apocalyptic scenario that inspired films like Planet of the Apes, and Logan’s Run. I was happy to see an anime that was intended to challenge the intellect, rather than feed the dull, clichés of the mainstream fan-base. I was happy to see all this accomplished in an animation that doesn’t skimp on the production values either. Last week I was very happy, until my laptop died, but that’s another story...

From the New World: Part 1, was released by MVM on DVD and on Blu-ray last Monday.
