Review for WWE Night of Champions 2011

7 / 10

Last year I commented about how stupid WWE were to not have every match for a title… This year they ALMOST ALMOST listened to me. Only one match was not title related, but that involved CM Punk and so I can forgive that.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match
Air Boom (Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne) vs. The Miz & R-Truth
Great match. I feel like WWE may be starting to care about the tag division again. If so then these two teams are step in the right direction.

Intercontinental Championship Match
Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiaseI feel this match is about 2 years too late. A good match and both work well together, but after a while I got a bit bored and really started to miss Maryse.

Fatal 4-Way Match for the United States Championship
Dolph Ziggler vs. Alex Riley vs. Jack Swagger vs. John Morrison
A good match and had an almost X-Division feel to it. All four are amazing in the ring and there are some excellent moments throughout.

World Heavyweight Championship Match
Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry
I hate to say this… BUT Mark Henry was pretty good in this match. For over a decade he has been boring, but this match was pretty good. Maybe it was because I didn't mind the fact he was squashing Orton, but this was a shocker of a match and a result I never expected to happen.

Divas Championship Match
Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix
Really? I just… my head hurts thinking about this match. It makes no sense whatsoever.

WWE Championship Match
Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena
Pick your poison. I hate Del Rio and don't care for Cena. Though I was happy that the smug smile of Del Rio could be wiped away. A good match, just nothing special and a little predictable.

No Disqualification Match
CM Punk vs. Triple H
Match of the night-Of course it is, CM Punk is in it. I really enjoyed this. I didn't think it would happen and it proves just how good Punk is and also just how good Triple H can be despite now being more behind the scenes. I really enjoyed this match, even if I did think the stipulation crippled it somewhat… after what happened at Money in the Bank I have learnt with CM Punk that anything is possible.

Night of Champions 2011 was a pretty good PPV, there were a few duds here and certainly some matches that I'll probably never watch again. BUT the Orton/Henry and Punk/Triple H were great and even matches like the Tag and US title matches were pretty good.
