Samsung Apps Kicks Off World Cup Giveaway

Samsung Apps, the dedicated application hub for one of the world's leading mobile phone providers, announced today it will offer free football-related apps this month during the football tournament in South Africa. The three apps — Real Football 2010, 1 GOAL and Kickoff 2010 — will be available from June 11th to the first 100,000 people who download.

"This football festival is the most exciting sporting event in the world," said Kanghyun Kwon, vice president, Media Solutions Center, Samsung Electronics. "We wanted to offer our customers a way to enhance their excitement for this year's event by offering free football-related apps for their Samsung smartphones. The apps we offer will challenge game lovers and keep fans up to date on the latest football news, and we're also looking to raise awareness about Samsung Apps as an exclusive destination for Samsung smartphone users."

All three apps will be available in 13 countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Singapore, Turkey, Russia, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Hong Kong, Spain and South Africa. 1 GOAL and Kickoff 2010, compatible with the Wave S8500 mobile upon its release (slated for Europe in second quarter 2010), will also be available in all countries supported by Samsung Apps' global store.

Gameloft's Real Football 2010 (normally $4.99), which finished third in Samsung Apps' 2009 application contest, is sanctioned by FIFPro license, allowing for real player names and 245 teams in eight leagues. The game is compatible with both the Wave and Omnia II mobiles.

For this year's football festival, the 1GOAL app joins the biggest names in football with fans, charities and organizations around the world, seizing the power of the sport to ensure education for all children becomes a lasting impact of the tournament. Polar Mobile's Kickoff 2010 is the premier app for football fans to get up-to-the-minute scores and stats of their favorite teams participating in the South Africa tournament.
The football apps giveaway will be featured on both Samsung Apps' official website (www.samsungapps.com) and its dedicated Facebook fan page (www.facebook.com/SamsungApps), where customers will be able to get details about the offer and engage in conversation about the tournament with other Samsung fans.

The three football applications are the just the latest offerings of Samsung Apps, which has gained incredible momentum since its inception in September 2009. In many of its major European, Asian and Latin American markets, the total number of applications offered has tripled — and company leaders expect even more growth with the introduction of the much-anticipated Wave handset. The Wave, a touch-screen smartphone with a 3.3-inch Super AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) display, is the company's first device to run its bada platform.

Samsung Apps currently offers a multitude of new programs, including games, social networking, e-books and health-related tools. Users of the Samsung Omnia, Omnia HD (I8910HD), Omnia II, OmniaLITE and now the Wave mobile devices have the ability to download apps in the store, which is designed to automatically display the relevant application catalog available for a user's specific phone model. Participating application providers include The Associated Press, Electronic Arts, Facebook, Gameloft, Layar, MySpace, Namco Bandai, Twitter, Universal Pictures International, WeatherBug, among many others. Well-known apps include Need for Speed Shift (EA) and WeatherBug (WeatherBug).

The store is currently offered in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey, Spain, Sweden, Poland, Singapore, Hong Kong and Russia, with more than 80 countries around the world to follow with the Wave launch.

The football giveaway timeframe can vary depending on participating countries.
