Review of South Park Volume 7

    7 / 10

    Introduction

Volume 7 of the South Park DVD collection contains the last five episodes of the second season.

    Video

As with all of the other South Park discs, another reasonable 4:3 transfer, not perfection, but there aren`t many problems with it. Still a few compression artefacts on show, most likely the result of squashing five episodes onto a DVD-5.

    Audio

Continuing the trend set by the other discs in the series, a DD2.0 stereo track, perfectly adequate for the job. Again, like the all of the other discs the French audio track is included, with different voices (and a few odd translations) for the characters.

    Features

Gone are the introductions to each episode by creators Matt Stone & Trey Parker (these were on all of the first season discs), and gone is the general trailer for the show.

All of the second series discs are therefore stripped of any bonus materials.

    Conclusion

Another top class selection of episodes for your enjoyment.

"Chef Aid" is probably the weakest episode on the disc, as it probably relies too much on its special musical guests (who all rally round to help Chef out of financial trouble).

"Spooky Fish" features just that (a killer fish who looks totally innocent), plus bearded alternative versions of our heroes from another dimension, and plenty of madcap mayhem to boot. A very funny episode.

"Merry Christmas Charlie Manson" features a cartoon version of Mr Helter Skelter, on the run from the police and crossing the paths of our heroes.

"Gnomes" features those cute lovable little underpants gnomes who pop up and steal things, and sing their annoying little song.

"Prehistoric Ice Man" closes out the season, when our heroes discover a man who has been buried in ice. However their estimates about how long he has been buried are just a trifle too big, and it turns out that he comes from a very recent era, when "Ace of Bass" topped the charts. An excellent episode.

As with some of the earlier discs, four good episodes and one weaker one still makes for a good disc.
